The Gold Rush Cup is an annual Ryder Cup style event, taking place over 3 days, with 3 unique courses and 3 different formats in Palm Desert, CA. The total player field is split into 2 teams, led by 2 Team Captains. These two teams compete in 3 days of match play for ultimate bragging rights as the reigning GRC Champions.
The GRC started as an idea between Austin Maynard and Andrew Ritchart in 2016. After leaving a 3-Day Ryder Cup style event in Palm Desert, we both knew we had to build a similar event. The competitiveness, comraderie and drama that a 3-day, team match play setup brought could not be outdone.
You may be wondering why we are playing in Palm Desert and the event is called the Gold Rush Cup, and the logo is a Bear and Mountain? Austin and Andrew, plus the vast majority of the original field are all from a small town in Northern California Gold Country, called Auburn. We wanted a name that represented our home town culture. We now live in San Diego and have many friends spanning the state, but most primarily from Southern California. Thus, Palm Desert is an ideal location for the GRC.
PGA West - Jack Nicklaus Course Hole #17 - GRC 2020
2020 was the first official year of the GRC, where we competed at the La Quinta Dunes Course, PGA West, Nicklaus & Norman.
This year, 2025, will be the 6th Annual GRC. Our hope is that everyone who joins as a GRC member in 2025 will want to be one for life. The goal for the GRC is … to have a competitive annual event that we can all look forward to, practice to play our best in, use as a competitive outlet and that friendships and team camaraderie grow year over year. The secondary goal is to host the GRC in locations like Arizona, Las Vegas, South Carolina, Michigan, Oregon and more. We want this to be a Cup we all look forward to competing in every year, and that strong friendships form over time.
